Monday Music Notes is a weekly post that is intended to remind everyone of upcoming events and due dates for the ZHS Bulldog Band. If you ever have questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.
Our 2017-2018 Band Camp will be taking place from Monday, July 24th – Thursday, July 28th. The schedule is from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Throughout the camp there will be a variety of breaks for activities, snacks and lunch. To help pay for meals, snacks and other costs, we are asking that each student contribute $25.00 and a case of water. It is important that every student attending pay their $25.00 by the start of camp on July 24th.
Over the course of band camp, students will spend time on the field learning to march and play our halftime show. One of our major goals this year will be to have the entire halftime show on the field by the end of our camp (yes, that means marching and playing!). It is essential that all students attend. (NOTE: Those students who miss camp, will be asked not to march during our first few football games.)
Remember to dress appropriately (t-shirt, socks and athletic shoes/shorts), you will be doing some work!
Even though this year’s band will be larger than the last few years, we’re always looking for new members. If you did not sign-up for band, but would like to make a change, just let me know. If you’re undecided, come and try a day of Band Camp. I’m positive you’ll want to stay.
Please remind any other band members in case I missed getting them on my list. Also, if you know of any new band people who have moved into our area, please invite them to attend.
If you are in Guard, your camp will take place Monday, July 17th – Thursday, July 20th from 8am – 12pm. During this time you will review basic auxiliary techniques, learn the halftime routines and choreography, and marching basics. You also need to attend the general Band Camp.
If you are a percussionist, your camp will take place Wednesday, July 19th – Thursday, July 20th, from 9am – 12pm. During this time you will review basic percussion techniques, learn the halftime show music, marching basics, and several cadences. It is during this time, that based on how you perform, you will be assigned to your marching instrument. You also need to attend the general Band Camp.
If you have been selected as a student leader, your leadership camp will take place on Friday, July 21st from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm.
During this time, you will be going through some basic leadership training, will help plan activities and events for band camp, and help prepare our band for band camp! Remember to dress appropriately (t-shirt, socks and athletic shoes/shorts), you will be doing some work!
Throughout the year, we will be in need of parents to act as volunteers and chaperones with our band program. To ensure the safety of our students, the District School Board of Pasco County requires all volunteers/chaperones to complete their volunteer application. They require volunteers/chaperones to complete this Volunteer Application every school year. Here’s how you can become a volunteer for the 2017-2018 school year!
Then we just need you to support the band program when necessary. Don’t worry, we will always send out information in advance when chaperones and volunteers are needed!
